Comprehensive ADHD Evaluations

Insight‑driven ADHD testing assessments to understand strengths, challenges & next steps

Because no two brains work the same, our ADHD testing and diagnostic evaluation provides a clear picture of how you focus, learn, and manage tasks across school, work, and everyday life. We combine evidence-based assessments to deliver accurate results, an explanation you can understand, and a personalized plan for next steps and support.

What is ADHD?

ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, impulse control, and executive functioning. Children and teens with ADHD may struggle with focus, following directions, organization, task completion, or managing big emotions. These symptoms often show up at school, at home, and in social relationships.

Because ADHD can overlap with anxiety, learning differences, or executive-function challenges, a comprehensive ADHD evaluation is often the most accurate way to understand what’s going on.

We offer ADHD diagnostic assessments and ADHD testing for teens and young adults who may be seeking clarity about attention, focus, or executive-function concerns.

Who May Benefit from an ADHD Evaluation

An ADHD evaluation is helpful for children and adolescents who are struggling academically, having difficulty staying focused, or experiencing challenges with social interactions and friendships. Comprehensive ADHD testing can clarify why a child may be having trouble completing assignments, following directions, managing emotions, or staying organized at home and in school.

If your child is showing signs of attention difficulties, impulsivity, executive-function challenges, or behavioral concerns, a formal ADHD assessment can identify what’s driving these issues and whether 504 Plan or IEP accommodations may be appropriate. An evaluation can also highlight strengths and provide clear recommendations to support success in school, at home, and in daily life.

Top Signs Your Child May Benefit from ADHD Testing

  • Academic struggles, unfinished work, or difficulty keeping up with assignments and exams—especially when teachers have raised concerns or suggested a 504 Plan or IEP.

  • Attention, focus, or impulse-control issues that interfere with learning, routines, or daily tasks at home or in the classroom.

  • Emotional or behavioral regulation challenges, including big feelings, irritability, or difficulty following expectations—especially when teacher rating scales or early cognitive testing indicate potential concerns.

A comprehensive ADHD evaluation can also assess for co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, learning disabilities, or executive-function deficits. Understanding the full picture ensures your child receives accurate recommendations and the right support.

The ADHD Evaluation Process

Our comprehensive ADHD evaluation process helps uncover the root causes of attention, learning, or behavior challenges—providing clear answers and a plan for meaningful progress. Each assessment includes:

  • Parent intake meeting to review developmental history, academic concerns, and behavioral symptoms

  • Record review of school reports, prior evaluations, and relevant documents

  • Teacher communication to understand classroom functioning and attention needs

  • Neuropsychological testing across two to three sessions, including executive-function assessments, cognitive testing, and behavioral rating measures

  • Parent feedback session with results, diagnosis (if appropriate), and personalized recommendations

Who performs the ADHD Evaluation?

Hallie Malbin, Ph.D.

I conduct comprehensive evaluations, which provide information about a child/adolescent's strengths, weaknesses and current level of functioning.  Using the testing results, I develop meaningful recommendations and suggest helpful interventions and accommodations.

Through the evaluation process, my goal is to identify a child’s learning profile and determine what that child needs to be successful.  I also hope to empower parents so they can become advocates for their children.

I received my Doctorate in Educational Psychology from the Graduate Center at CUNY, and I earned a Masters Degree in School Psychology from Teachers College at Columbia University.  Prior to joining Mental Wellness Montclair, I worked for over fifteen years as an elementary school psychologist in Westchester County, New York.
